Public Outreach & Education

Public outreach and education is a key component of our abatement program.

Door-to Door Information

To educate residents of our community about how they can participate in reducing potential mosquito breeding sites on private property, we go door-to-door to distribute information that describe remedies for reducing breeding sites and the importance of wearing repellents.

Information Booth

Our NSMAD information booth is available to appear at community events upon request. To request the information booth, please contact our Communications Manager, Dave Zazra or via telephone at 847.446.9434 ext. 1001.

Public Events

Our Communications Manager and several NSMAD employees attended numerous public events throughout the season with our public information booth. We bring our information booth and speak with residents regarding personal protection methods and answer their questions. Some of the events we visit:

  • Northbrook’s Earth Day celebration
  • Lincolnwood and Morton Grove farmer’s markets
  • Glencoe Public Works Open House
  • Evanston Fourth of July parade
  • Skokie Fourth of July parade

Communication with Public Health Officials

Our Superintendent and the Communications Manager visit with public health officials from within our district and the state to keep them apprised of our activities. A weekly status report is delivered via email to public health officials with updates about operations and mosquito testing.

Media Announcements

During the season, we speak with the media to cover timely topics such as repellent usage, West Nile Virus, trap counts, testing data, and when adult mosquito control operations are to be conducted.

Adult Mosquito Control Hotline

To learn the location(s) of our scheduled adult mosquito control operations, please call us at 847-446-9434. Information is updated daily by 3:30 p.m.
